The ingredients needed to make Split Green gram Salad (Kosambari):
- Prepare 100 gms Moong dal (Split green gram)
- Make ready 1 cup Grated Coconut (appx. 100 grams)
- Take 1 Cup Chopped Cucumber (approximately 50 grams)
- Take 2 tbsp Lemon Juice
- Get 1 tablespoon Oil
- Make ready 1/2 tsp (mustard seeds)
- Prepare 1/2 tsp Udad dal (black gram)
- Get 1/2 tsp of finely chpped green chillies
- Make ready 2 pinches hing (asafoetida)
- Get as needed Salt
- Make ready 1 cup finely chopped fresh Daniya leaves (Coriander leaves)
Mix Cucumber, Green Gram, Coriander Leaves, Green Chilies and Coconut and keep it aside. Heat Oil in a pan and add the Mustard Seeds and when it splutters remove from heat and add the Curry Leaves. Kosambari or koshambari is a typical south Indian salad made from pulses (split legumes) and seasoned with mustard seeds. The pulses generally used are split bengal gram (kadale bele in Kannada) and split Green gram (Hesaru bele in Kannada).
Steps to make Split Green gram Salad (Kosambari):
- Clean and rinse moong dal. And soak it for two hours.
- In a small pan heat oil and add mustard seeds, hing, udad dal and chpped green chillies. Fry it for a minute.
- Then clean the soaked moong dal three times. Drain out the water using a strainer.
- Take a big vessel. Add moong dal, grated coconut, salt, cucumber, coriander leaves and the cooled seasoning. Mix it well.
- While serving add lemon juice.
